The National Association de Zonnebloem
What started in 1949 as a radio program especially for the sick and people with disabilities, has grown into one of the largest volunteer organizations in the Netherlands.
More than 1.3 million people live with a physical disability in the Netherlands. National Association De Zonnebloem has been committed to a society in which they too can participate carefree and naturally for 75 years. With 1100 departments throughout the country, the Zonnebloem volunteers are always close by. With personal attention, trips, activities and holidays.
We believe that a physical disability should never be an obstacle. Unlimited progress together.
Reality
Unfortunately, the reality is different. Staying at home when you actually want to go out. No fewer than 77% of people with a physical disability do this regularly. Accessibility is more than a legal right; it is an essential condition for people with a physical disability to participate in daily life without any worries. Whether it concerns work, travel, shopping, going out or just running an errand. People often don't know exactly what to expect at the location they want to go to. Can I park near the entrance? Can I get in? Is there an accessible toilet? Can I see, hear and experience what visitors without physical limitations experience?
Our volunteers show that much more is possible!
With attention, activities and holidays. In addition, we are committed to better mobility and better accessibility of leisure locations for people with physical disabilities. To achieve this, we always think in terms of solutions. This applies to our volunteers, our donors and the partners we work with. We do what we are good at: making contacts, bringing fun, organizing activities and making holidays possible with our local departments. Social impact and attention are central.
